I’ve learnt to love driving through the night,
The shadows creeping over roads
That once were washed with hedgerow green,
Setting every mile in midnight blue
Until the sun has kissed the earth on all her sides.
The cats eyes pass hypnotically
And mark my path into the void, or home
Wherever that may be I’ll drive
Into the blinding beam of trucks that blast their horns
An etiquette on roads I’ll never understand.
And yet I love the mystery, the swinging turns
That creep up on me when I least expect.
I love the radio that speaks to me
On levels personal, not broadcast to the world
And most of all I love the fact
That all the roads will lead me back to you.
