for the love of rick astley: a sonnet

It’s slightly ironic, that love that I feel,

As I trust in his promise never to let me down,

That it’s something to hold, it’s something so real,

Trust so deep, I feel I could drown.

His lyrics are so full of perfect strong cheese

That makes me feel safe and familiar, so cosy

That I slide into verses with relative ease,

Until the world all around is gorgeous and rosy.

He’s become such a marvelous figure of fun

We’re no longer sure that our love is so serious

But when the song is over, and all’s said and done

We’re left so happy we’re virtually delirious.

So join me in loving our glorious Rick

Or we will all think that really you’re a bit of a d**k.
