rock and a hard place

You try and yet

You’re pinned against the wall,

Ribs are crushed and lungs are punctured

And all you can think of

Is the great injustice,

A pain that every human feels

At one time or another.

Ugh, I hate the fact that you can’t please everyone. I’m a people pleaser and it crushes me that I can’t satisfy everyone. And the more you push yourself to do greater things in life, the more push back you get from all directions.

I suppose that it’s basic science, really. Every action has an equal reaction, or something like that (apologies Einstein for butchering your theory there). So, it makes sense that every decision will have some reaction, and 50% of those reactions are likely to be negative.

I’m an introvert so it takes a huge amount of effort to put myself out there, and so I want to know that the world is safe when I go out there – and it’s not.

And that means that I sometimes resent going out and being a functioning human. It’s frustrating to feel as though you are stuck between a rock and a hard place – please one person and you’re letting down another.

This is an age old problem and every human in history will have felt it at some point – but God, I really want to moan about it sometimes. And sometimes I just want to scream extremely loudly. But you’re not allowed to do that so I just smile through gritted teeth.

Much Love

Rachel xx

I know what you mean, Rachel. Sometimes, no matter what decision you take, or what you do, someone’s going to be unhappy. And sometimes you can’t help that. It’s hard to let go and just do what’s best, but sometimes you have to do just that.

Seriously, though, hang in there. I know the feeling. Don’t beat yourself up. Do what you need to, do what’s best for you, and other people can mind their own business.

You’re right, of course, and wise to note. We can’t please everyone, and those of who want to want to scream when we don’t. Some folk who aren’t pleased have their own agendas that are more important than people. Some folk have bad attitudes. Some folk have bad days. Sigh.
