How would we explain?

How would we explain the things

That shook our world in every way,

In ten short years, we’ve lost our sight,

Wandering aimlessly

Without the words to tell ourselves

What the fuck is going on.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to talk to me from ten years ago, and tell her about everything that will be coming her way. I wonder which bits I would believe and which bits I would write off as a load of crap.

I don’t think that any of us could have predicted the past two years because of the pandemic, but there are lots of other things that have changed over the last ten years, and I’m sure I’d struggle to believe those stories.

Some of the crazes that we’ve lived through, the technology we’ve loved and the TV shows we’ve been hooked on are baffling, and yet we have jumped onboard, no questions asked. I remember when 50 Shades of Grey shot to fame in 2012 and everyone was reading it – with no shame!

It seemed like the weirdest kind of book for everyone to suddenly fall in love with. If you told us all in 2010 – you’re all going to be hooked on pornographic literature in the next year, we’d have all thought you were bloody mad.

There are so many other funny little crazes and news stories that have popped up over the years. I just find it funny how we all seem to adopt these things so unquestioningly.

Much Love

Rachel xx

Trying to explain something like 50 Shades… or the Chia pet craze, or whatever is almost impossible, I think. We get into these crazes or big news stories, and they consume us. Then, a few years later, people look at us as though we’re mad when we mention them. Funny how that happens…
