When it punches you hard in the gut
And the wind’s knocked out of your lungs,
The TV refelcting a painful old truth
That festered for a time, hidden from view
And some writer in Hollywood picked at the scab,
Leaving you breathless and lost for some time.
I have been watching Love Life on Netflix and I cannot recommend it enough. I started watching it because I have a bit of a girl crush on Anna Kendrick and I’ll happily watch anything she’s in. But it’s ended up picking at some painful memories.
The show follows Darby who is trying to find her Mr. Perfect as a twenty-something in New York. I thought it would be a bit rom-commy, but it’s actually turned out to stir up some emotions that sometimes leave me feeling a bit breathless by the end of some episodes.
I always feel a bit raw whenever I watch things about mothers and daughters and how dysfunctional some of these relationships can be. If a storyline that examines this is done well enough, it can leave me thinking about it for days later. It’s like having a therapy session for free.
Whatever your age, I highly recommend you check out Love Life because I feel there is something for everyone there – and you will probably find that at least one episode will leave you staring at the blank screen wondering how any writer could have ever got it so bang on the nose.
Much Love

It’s almost eerie, isn’t it, Rachel, how a film or TV show can strike a nerve like that. It’s like ‘Killing Me Softly,’ but with a camera and script instead of a song.
