the more successful sister

She’s a little bit prettier

And she was better at track and field

All slender limbs, bronzed and angular

While the other one

Sat on the sidelines, pretending

That she was OK

With being her sister’s sister.

I’ve just started watching The Devil in Ohio that stars Emily Deschanel and I had never come across her before. Of course, I have heard of her sister Zooey because of Elf and New Girl.

Emily is a fantastic actress but she’s probably not as famous as her sister, and I wonder how she feels about that? Lnowing that you’re just as good as your sibling, but you’ve not enjoyed the same amount of success.

I used to work with someone who know Kate and Beth Winslet and, again, Beth is an amazing actress, but she got left behind after her sister got the Titanic role. And there must be tonnes of people out there who feel a little bit dwarfed by their sibling’s achievements.

I’m an only child, so I’ve never had to deal with any competition, and I don’t know if that’s better or worse. I have a tendency to put a lot of pressure on myself, so there is no need for any competition over here.

But the point is, that Emily is amazing and I wonder if God does sit there and point his finger at one child and say you will be the rich and famous one. There is always a reason for our individual journeys, and I guess, success is different for every person.

Much Love

I do wonder what happens when one sibling seems to outshine the other, Rachel (like Princess Kate and her sister Pippa). Emily Deschanel starred for years on a very successful US show Bones, but I don’t think that’s running anymore. It would be interesting to know what she thinks of her sister’s success.

Here in the US, Tito Jackson seems to be the person typically cited as a less successful sibling. Of course, being more successful comes with its own struggles; Tito’s younger brother had such a troubled life, and an untimely death, after having lived in the spotlight all his life.

Hmm, Jacob and Esau. I guess siblings do have issues that do become social. I have a bunch of siblings. I’m sure there was perception generally and also rivalry. Growing older seems to have made a really good difference. Emily, by the way, starred in the TV series BONES with David Boreanaz. A show dealing with extreme forensics that ran for several seasons. And I agree, Zooey is more famous.
