london rain

It comes in swathes

Of warm and foggy rain,

Plastering hair to sodden cheeks

Relentless as they run for cover,

Newspapers held helplessly overhead,

Laughing as they drip drip on coffeehouse floors

And taking a seat the clouds yawn

Opening up a pool of light,

Drying clothes

In April afternoons.

I was listening to the radio yesterday and on the show they had a segment called ‘Little Wins’. It basically asked the guest celebrity what made them happy for little to no money. It concentrated on being mindful rather than extravagant when trying to cheer yourself up.

Katie Melua was on yesterday and her little win just made me stop for a moment, because it was so beautiful. She said that she felt 100% content when she was in London on a rainy day and she would sit on a bench just as the clouds parted and she would find herself in the one sunny spot that there was anywhere.

I’m sure we’ve all experienced that at one time or another, and I thought it was lovely. Next time it happens, I will definitely take a bit more time to savour that moment and enjoy the sun on my skin.

It certainly beats the feeling of thinking that there is a little raincloud following you around everywhere.

Much Love

Rachel xx

What a lovely mental picture, Rachel! I couldn’t agree more, too, that we need to focus on those little things that cheer us, or makes us feel warm inside. Whether it’s that spot of sunlight, or a funny joke, or an interesting article, or whatever, I think we need to be aware and put those moments in our ‘banks.’
