CV clutched in sweaty palms
As heart begins to flutter like
A hummingbird, singing in his chest.
His patent leather shoes are new,
Specially bought for the interview,
Will the manager know? As he smiles
Wistfully, remembering a day
When he was young with dreams
Still intact and full of happy promise.
My son is takinga year out between college and university so he is currently applying for his first job. He didn’t bother getting a weekend job while he was studying, so he is in that nerve wracking position of not really knowing what to expect.
It just got me thinking about my first interview. I got a job as a lifeguard at the local leisure centre when I was sixteen. I had the interview with the general manager and I was terrified. I’ve always been nervous about being in a room with the door closed so I felt totally trapped.
And then, when I got the job there were all those nerves about the first shift and meeting your colleagues for the first time. I was painfully shy so it was really uncomfortable but I ended up falling in love with those people I worked with. I just hope that Noah is lucky and has great colleagues because those first ones can feel like family.
Much Love

Oh, that first job interview is so nerve-wracking, isn’t it, Rachel? I feel for Noah. I remember the first full-time job interview I had; it’s always so anxiety-producing. I hope he does well! Fingers crossed!
