(un)happy valentine’s day

She trails through supermarket aisles,
Picking up a meal for two, the deal
She saw an advert for while she watched
An episode of Hollyoaks. It was posh food,
Oven roasted meat with potatoes dauphinoise
And cheesecake drizzled with a raspberry jam,
And bubbles to go with. She puts each item
In her basket, paying fifteen pound,
Driving home while singing ballads with
The radio, crying tears of loneliness.
In her kitchen, she peels away the plastic packs
And eats each item with the care
Of someone so in love. It’s sad to be alone,
But eating takes away a little of the pain.
