Switch them round, those simple rounded words
And see if we can make them work,
Make them turn from something tightly coded
Into flowing sentences, that wind their whirling way
Through minds that once were so confused.
Just a simple change of words can make
The brightest of the lights flood in,
Making perfect sense of it,
That puzzle that had foxed me for
Forever and a day.
I sometimes find that some of the simplest concepts in life can totally confuse me and then all of a sudden, someone will word the problem ever so slightly differently and I just ‘get it’.
The other day I did a lesson and in my feedback the teacher watching me said that I need to be more conscious of making the students accountable for their work and making sure that all of the activities were purposeful.
This is really a given, but the way that the teacher worded it just clicked something in my brain and I’m thinking about it every time I deliver a lesson.
It just makes me smile that, as someone who is fairly smart, I don’t have much common sense and sometimes I need somebody to talk to me as though I’m child. This was such a simple idea; I can’t believe it has taken me the full year to have that part of the process click into place.
